Between Alpha X and Omega
Under the heading ‘Between Alpha X and Omega’, the gallery artepari is presenting new creations by the artist Markus Wilfing in Graz – from April 24th to June 5th, 2009.
The unexcited aesthetics of everyday objects, shifts in perception, visual irritations, and the resulting conscious realization of the mechanisms of deception are characteristic of the work of Markus Wilfing. In the development of his sculptures, which are often based on objets trouvés or fake ready-mades, he presses ahead with his investigation into the world’s absurdity. While doing so, however, he is not pretending; he is not the one creating the illusions, but the one sounding out the possibilities of material actualities, whose supposed reality captures the beholder. Thus, learned brain functions are called into question, while at the same time recollections gain a momentum of their own and are thrown off kilter. Dr. Elisabeth Fiedler
A representative of Austrian sculpture, Markus Wilfing is one of the flashiest and most original artists of the younger generation.
The artist, Markus Wilfing, was born in Innsbruck in 1966. He attended the School of Applied Arts in Graz and later studied Sculpture under Bruno Gironcoli at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. With the installation of his work ‘Shadow of the Clocktower’ in Graz, Wilfing first became known to a wider audience in 2003 when the city was the Cultural Capital of Europe.
Duration of the exhibition: 24th April to 5th June 2009
