Under the title “She’s the Lover”, the gallery artepari shows a solo exhibition with new works by Michaela Söll.

The subtle and emblematic works of Michaela Söll express the question of entangled figure/ground relationships as well as the question about the unexplored traces of mythological differences, which in her collection “She’s the Lover” rebel against symbolic orders through the genre of painting. Next to organic elements, figures without actual bodies, yet figurative, fragmentary, undergo metamorphoses which stand their ground within the pictorial space as vividly coloured appearances or as phenomena retreating into the painting surface. Naturally, an emotional power is created, whose artistic and semiotic forms of articulation make us understand the dialectics of desire and the genuinely artistic withdrawal as a topos of painting. According to Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic definition, desire can be described as a form of privation, as a model of withdrawal. The title “She’s the Lover” already indicates this conflict between the expressive and the material subject, the change between evasion and exposure. Ursula Maria Probst, 2008
