SAM
The nonresponder company presents seeds of captured eyes
The title at the exhibition of Bruno Wildbach in the gallery artepari is mysteriously complex, a conglomerate of picture titles, which leads the searcher for a meaning in a labyrinth, in which he/she desperately gets lost. Though the protagonists on the pictures seem familiar, nothing is predictable. A strangely unreal flair emanates from the interlaced picture arrangements, in which there are abstract elements next to figurative, objective ones. Here, the art of painting serves as a code to the rediscovery of emotionality. The picture “SAM” – at the same time the title of this exhibition – becomes a metaphor for the faith in utopia. During an expedition in this world of images we will come across an anthropological constant, namely Sam.
„Cosma, Jutta, Julian, Max, Vitus, John, Clara, Hemma, Daniela, Isabella, Damien, Laura, Lydia, Bill, William, Piero, Markus, Greta, George, Elsa, Helena, Judith, Diego, Joseph, Ester, Hieronymus, Bob, Conrad, Francisco, Verena, Paul, Stanley, Arthur, Flora, Mary und Sam schauen mir über die Schulter.“ Bruno Wildbach, 2008
In his works we continually find constellations, which signalize interferences of different levels of reality and a varying compilation of diverging fragments – from the reference of the presence to the ornament and finally to pulsating abstract formations (…) Realistically drawn portraits of his friends characterize the repertory of figures just as much as famous characters which are transferred into the pictorial world by master illustrations from the medial fund. Partly they step back in their presence, entrapped in a netting of light, partly they dominate the space, being positioned in the first image plane. But even then their appearance isn’t the only reality in the image. If one tries to follow up on the complex appendages of the artwork, the question of the degree of reality and of the validity of a scheme of composition – which is characterized by a constant fragmentation and newly formatted merging – will appear over and over again.
