BASTARDS – PAINTING AND DRAWING
Why do we take on the looks of our fathers or mothers? Is it because we do not want to be left in the baby drop box or because we are indeed their kin? Is a tamed animal wilder than a domesticated retiree on the leash? Where exactly is the transvestite hidden in the dog, and who is it that resembles whom?
The exhibition “Bastards“ will not answer questions about disguise and deception. Rather, it is about chimera with both animal and human traits, which will be presented, discussed, and captured on canvas.
Most of these creatures gaze at us frontally, as if they wanted to challenge us or just tell us of their mental state. Artificial perukes embellishing their furry heads in different shapes and hairstyles are the trophies they all share – Cave canem (beware of the dog).
