SHE´S THE LOVER
The question of the netting of figure and base as well as of the untrodden traces of mythological differences – which, through the genre of painting, risk an offence against symbolic systems in Michaela Söll’s series “She’s the Lover” – expresses itself in a subtle, emblematic painting. Figures without a real body, however figurative, fragmentary, form next to vegetabile elements metamorphoses, which assert themselves as colour intensive appearances or such appearances which retreat into the painting ground. It goes without saying that with this a certain power of emotions is being expressed, whose picturesque and semiotic forms of articulation let us comprehend the dialectic of desire and the genuine artistic deprivation as the topos of painting. Based on the psychoanalytical definition of Jacques Lacan, desire can be defined as deficit, as a model of deprivation. Already in the title “She’s the Lover” the conflict between the talking and the physical subject, the changing between eluding something and going out on a limb, is being verbalized.
